I had the opportunity to sit down with promoter/DJ/founder of Iheartcomix Records, Franki Chan. Coming off a national tour, I caught up with Chan at his place near Hollywood and covered topics ranging from throwing some of the best parties in L.A. to running his own business.

Q: When did you realize it was time to start your own label?

A: After promoting and DJing there was a natural progression, but I also had friends who pushed the idea.

Q: From a business and legal aspect, what are the toughest parts about running a label?

A: Day-to-day operations are the toughest part. We have a lawyer now and some other advisors who are helping us organize everything properly. Having never run a business before, it is difficult and very complex.

Q: What is your goal for the label?

A: I want people to see Iheartcomix as a quality brand that supports artists and wants to see them succeed.

You can check out Franki Chan at “Check Yo’ Pony Tail” at the Echoplex and “Fucking Awesome” at Beauty Bar. Also at iheartcomix.com.
