Ever wonder what your favorite new bands REALLY listens to It’s easy to find out what they are listening to and what their biggest influences are by checking out “Still F*ing Awesome” (“Awesome”) at Beauty Bar in Hollywood on Monday nights. Alongside resident DJs Franki Chan and Har Mar Superstar, “Awesome” allows some of the hottest new bands to put down their instruments and showcase their talents on the turntables.
The incarnation of this weekly event has become a stop for many acts, either in between gigs or just when they have a free night in L.A.
When I checked it out on Jan. 21, it was the first U.S. appearance from London/ Paris-based indie rockers, The Teenagers. They took some time out to DJ before their debut performance later that week at Spaceland. Also DJing that night was L.A. hip hop duo Brother Reade. Those in attendance were treated to varied sets spanning all genres of music.
In the past, “Awesome” has seen debut appearances by bands such as the Black Ghosts and hosted international electronic acts such as Surkin and Tronik Youth. With the party going strong, we can only expect even more.
