With the primaries fast approaching and in keeping with the whole election theme, I’m going to compare the candidates to movies that, in my mind, represent who they are.

Barack Obama: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Why? It’s about a political idealist who doesn’t back away from his beliefs when confronted with corruption. There’s an “audacity of hope” joke in here somewhere...

John Edwards: The Candidate
Why? He’s good looking, liberal, and has Robert Redford’s ‘70s hair.

Ron Paul:
Is it just me ordoes this guy look like Ian McKellen? For that reason alone: X-Men 3.

Hilary Clinton: Election
Why? It’s about an ambitious, conniving, anal-retentive, entitled character running for president. President of her high school, but still, I know you see the comparison. Or Primary Colors, for obvious reasons.

Mitt Romney: Bob Roberts
Although he’s not a populist folk singer like the titular character, he is two-faced and deflects from discussing the issues in a real way.

Rudy Guiliani: Casino
Why? I see parallels with the main character, who is sent to control Vegas casinos for the mob, but runs into problems with his uncontrollable associates, greed, thirst for power, and women.
