March 2008

On March 26th, over one million spectators will flood the streets of Los Angeles to watch 26,000 runners traverse the 2008 L.A. Marathon.  If you are amongst the revelers, don’t blink because you might miss SW’s own 3L Jenny Wood running past.

To prepare for the 26.2 mile jaunt, Wood adhered to a strict training schedule, consisting of four running days, two rest days and one 18-hole golf day.

Despite managing an internship with the L.A. District Attorney’s Office, a demanding part-time job at the SW gym and her self-titled website, www.jennywood.com, Wood insists she is not a role model.  “I’ve never run a marathon before.  Matter of fact, I’m only running this because I made a deal with my ex-roommate, but she backed out.”  Jenny agreed to run the marathon with her ex-roommate so they could motivate each other.

Wood estimates that she runs 25 miles per week.  She averages an 8:30 minute-mile pace in her training and hopes to stay around that time for the race.  “I want to finish in less than six hours.  I anticipate I’ll finish in significantly less time.  I just say six hours to allow for the unexpected -- in case I step on a rock or something.”  Potential spectators and athletes can visit www.lamarathon.com for more information.
