SW’s 17th-annual Public Interest Law Week culminated with a live auction and the first-ever PILW variety show, an event that raised $11,511 for the Public Interest Law Committee’s grant fund.
Nearly 200 guests attended to enjoy the entertainment of professor and student performers alike.
“I thought that the variety show/auction was a lot of fun, especially since the emcee was so engaging with the audience and the acts that performed were so talented,” Nancy Jones, 1L Day Student, said. “Plus, I couldn’t wait to see Professor Stier in the faculty band.”
Along with entertaining, the performers competed to capture the variety show prize. The Hoo-Hooligans, a combination student-faculty band, played “Sympathy for the Devil” by The Rolling Stones, winning them an engraved brick on the Westmoreland Promenade.
Between the performers, the live auction proved to be a hit, with items such as dinner for eight at Professor Carpenter’s home, a full BarBri Review Course, and flying lessons, many of them going for more than $1,000 apiece.
“Participating in the auction was a blast. It was really gratifying to know that my participation monetarily supported Public Interest Law,” Jones said, who was the proud winner of her own reserved parking spot on campus.
Together with Work Study Funds, auction proceeds will, subsidize over 20 student grants this upcoming summer.
